Jim McQuaide Named To Ohio Coaches Hall of Fame
Joining the ranks of football coaching greats Paul Brown and Woody Hayes, Solon athletic director and former head football coach Jim McQuaide has been selected for induction into the Ohio High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2026.
McQuaide, who retired as Solon’s head football coach to become athletic director full time in 2020, is Solon High School’s winningest football coach of all time, with a record of 143-57. He was selected for the Hall of Fame along with five other renowned Ohio high school football coaches.
“This is the ultimate honor for coaches in terms of personal recognition of their accomplishments,” said Solon Schools Superintendent Fred Bolden. “Jim is the consummate teacher and coach. He followed in the footsteps of Byron Morgan, our last Solon coach to be selected to the Ohio Coaches Hall of Fame exactly 20 years ago and never missed a beat. He has had a positive and lasting impact on thousands of Solon Comet athletes and students. It is nice to be able to celebrate this milestone achievement with Jim while he is still a part of our school community leading by example every day.”
McQuaide and the other members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2026 will officially be inducted in June 2026. The Ohio High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame is located above Gate 8 at the Ohio State stadium.
Coach McQuaide’s high school coaching career spanned 32 years, including 18 years as head coach at Solon. His overall coaching record is 219-119. In addition to Solon, Coach McQuaide led football programs at Cincinnati LaSalle, St. Edward and Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas High Schools. He also was inducted in the Warren Sports Hall of Fame and the Warren John F. Kennedy High School Hall of Fame, his hometown, for his coaching achievements. In the classroom, he taught business administration.
“I am very appreciative of this recognition,” said Coach McQuaide. “It truly is a testament to all of the athletes, coaches, staff and administrators I have been fortunate to work with during my career.”
With his selection, Solon High School will have the unique circumstance of having back-to-back coaches selected for this prestigious Hall of Fame honor. Former Comets coach Byron Morgan was inducted in 2006. His Comets 2000 State Runner Up team will be gathering for a 25th reunion in September and will be recognized at the end of the 1st quarter of the Comets home varsity game vs. the Shaker Heights Raiders.
